Perhaps amused by their jovial encounter, one of them turned around and insisted that he would pay for her gas.

“I thought he was teasing and I pulled out my credit card, and I said, ‘oh it’s ok, I got it,’” Olivia recounted. “He said, ‘no, ma’am, I really want to buy your gas.’ I said, ok.” He then handed over $20.

Olivia was so touched by the young man’s generosity, that she asked him if they could take a picture together.

She said that with Memphis getting a bad rap lately regarding crime, she wanted to remind everyone that there are still good young people in their city.

Olivia shared, “The young man is about the same age as my son. I would just like to know if he did something kind, people would at least say something. You know, you’re a good kid. They are doing the right thing.”

When Olivia shared the story on Facebook, several people commended the young man and thanked her for spreading the good word.

Olivia shared, “It was absolutely great for everybody coming together saying yes, you are right Memphis has good youth. No matter what you say, we’ve got them. They are everywhere.”
