Miniature Horse Lives Indoors with French Bulldogs [Video]

- Peabody was almost put down by his previous owners because of his numerous birth defects.
- Miniature horse trainer Faith Smith adopted him and took care of him until most of his issues were resolved.
- He was still too tiny to live outdoors with his fellow horses, however, so he currently resides indoors with Faith’s family and French bulldogs.
Peabody was born with several birth defects back in May. Not only did the miniature horse seem deaf and blind, but he also had a misaligned jaw that hindered him from eating or walking properly.
His owners even considered putting him down but decided to put him up for adoption.
Fortunately, Faith Smith, a miniature horse trainer in San Diego, California, came upon his photo. She instantly knew that she had to care for Peabody.
Renting a van, Faith drove across the country to take Peabody home, where the tiny horse slowly acclimated until most of his issues were resolved.
Faith soon found out that Peabody wasn’t blind at all! His jaw has also lined up, allowing him to eat properly.
He’s still too tiny, however, so he can’t live with the other horses. And so, he lives indoors with Faith’s family and French bulldogs.
Faith shared, “Horses are never indoor animals, but Peabody is so small that he could never live outside unless he gets bigger, and we’re not sure if he will. At present, he lives inside the house with the dogs.”
Now 6 months old, Peabody is only 16.5 inches tall and weighs only 19 pounds. That makes him the smallest horse in the world!
Peabody weighs even lighter than Faith’s Frenchies! While his indoor living brought about some adjustments, they all eventually got used to it.
Faith shared, “In the beginning, Peabody was really in survival mode. He was just too scared for love. But he gets along with the dogs now.”
“Now that he knows where his next meal is coming from, he’s starting to play with the dogs more and has let his guard down. He’s thinking now maybe he’ll be cared for in a way that he’ll survive,” she added.
Peabody is also being trained on the puppies’ training pads, so he can try using them when nature calls.
While Faith still hopes that he’ll get bigger and be able to live outside with his fellow horses, she’s willing to keep him indoors no matter how long it takes.
