Quick Smiles:

  • Chris Brightmore’s wedding ring, lost in the Persian Gulf, was found thanks to the kindness of strangers.
  • A community of Good Samaritans in Dubai came together to assist, offering tools and support.
  • The story, shared widely, has been dubbed the “Miracle in the Gulf,” rekindling faith in humanity.

During a family visit to the UAE, Chris Brightmore faced an unexpected challenge when his wedding ring of 51 years slipped off his finger into the Persian Gulf near Jumeira.

Despite his initial attempts to retrieve it by diving into the shallow waters, the ring seemed lost forever.

His wife, Kathy, was remarkably supportive, joining him in the search despite the lack of proper equipment.

Their son-in-law, Philip, proposed they seek help through a local Facebook group.

Brightmore was overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers.

“Among the dozens of kindly responses, one man offered to loan us his underwater metal detector and another said he had his own jewelry shop and that he would make me a replacement as close to the original as possible and, because of the intensely sentimental value, he would give it to me for free,” he shared.

Returning to the beach equipped with a metal detector and snorkeling gear, Chris and Philip spent hours searching, but the buoyant waters made it difficult.

Just when hope seemed lost, a couple approached them, recognizing Chris as “the gentleman that has lost his wedding ring.”

The man, a former professional diver named Adam Whitehead, offered his assistance.

“For someone who has been married that long and has never had the ring off his finger until now, it would be my honor to help you find it, if you would allow me,” he said.

After several attempts, Adam finally emerged from the water triumphantly, shouting “Eureka!” He had discovered the ring buried 10 feet down in the sand.

The story, shared on social media, captured the hearts of many, with people calling it the “Miracle in the Gulf.”

Brightmore, grateful for the extraordinary kindness shown to him, now vows to keep his ring in sight at all times, especially near water.
