  • Grandma Evelyn lost her wallet with all credit, debit, and medical cards.
  • A homeless man, Sean Curry, finds it in a dumpster and returns it to her.
  • Evelyn’s 12-year-old granddaughter decides to give all her birthday drive-by collection to the homeless man.

A good deed comes in many forms.  It can be paid forward and it can be given to the one who made the deed.  In the Jewish tradition, it is called a mitzvah.

Homeless Sean Curry, who returned a lost wallet said, he did it because he “[had] a heart” and “that’s the way I was brought up.”

Let’s review the events.

Evelyn Topper and her granddaughter, Mikayla Gounard, went to a local coffee shop and did not know she lost her wallet until reached home. She got worried because her wallet contained all her credit, debit, and medical cards.

But good news was waiting for her the morning after.  Sean Curry was making arrangements for her wallet to be returned as he found it in the dumpster behind the coffeeshop.

It was intact except for the cash.

Sean was not expecting something in return but Mikayla had plans on how to reward him for his good deed.

For her upcoming 12th birthday, Mikayla was planning on a socially distant “drive-by” party.  Instead of presents, she asked for donations to charity in her name.

She still had not targeted a charity when she planned it, but when she learned of Curry’s selfless deed, she found her case!

Mikayla knew that “one good turn deserves another” and so on her birthday, she set up a collection basket with a photo of Curry, and other party favors on their driveway. At the end of the “Happy Birthday!” drive by, she managed to raise several hundred dollars!

Mikayla, together with her mom, handed the money over to Stephen Curry the next day.  The heartwarming gesture humbled Curry.

Curry said, “I think it’s really important that people who think that because you got pushed down you can never get back up again.”
