  • U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms Dawn Patterson rescued a stray cat and fell in love with him while she was deployed in Bahrain.
  • However, logistical complications forced her to leave the cat overseas while she returned to the U.S.
  • She is now asking for help via Paws of War’s fundraiser so she can reunite with her “security blanket.”

Logistical complications forced U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms Dawn Patterson to leave her beloved cat, whom she rescued while deployed overseas, when she had to return to the U.S. Now, Patterson is hoping to be reunited with him.

Patterson has served in the Navy for 17 years. She found the cat living as a stray in Bahrain during her fourth deployment overseas. She rescued him and helped nurse him back to health.

The officer eventually fell in love with him and named him Mr. Grumpuss for his distinctive grumpy-looking face.

Patterson shared, “His Grumpy face always makes me smile. He is my security blanket.”

Sadly, when it came time for her to leave and return to her Virginia home for a new deployment, logistical complications forced her to leave Mr. Grumpuss in Bahrain.

She has since enlisted the help of nonprofit Paws of War, which assists military members and their pets, to raise funds and handle the logistics process of transporting a pet overseas.

Paws of War co-founder Robert Misseri shared, “This is a nightmare that nobody who has pets would want to experience. We were lucky to have someone to foster the cat while we work to raise the funds and make the arrangements to safely get Mr. Grumpuss home and reunited with his Navy officer.”

Meanwhile, Patterson is eagerly waiting to be reunited with her beloved Mr. Grumpuss.

“I will be so appreciative if Paws of War can help bring him back to me,” the officer said. “My baby must be lonely and confused. So I know he will be just as thrilled to see me.”
