Neighbors Form Friendship Over Piano Duets Through Walls [Video]

Published

on

  • Giorgio Lo Porto sent his neighbor a note, saying he appreciated their excellent piano playing, and requested a song.
  • The exchange of notes between the two neighbors started their friendship and piano duets every weekend at 2 pm.
  • The neighbor had just lost his wife to COVID-19 and was playing her favorite songs.

Pandemic protocols have kept people indoors.  But there’s no stopping getting to know your neighbors even through the walls.

When Giorgio Lo Porto heard his neighbor playing the piano, he was impressed with their talent.

He sent them a note of appreciation and requested for “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic to be played.

And so, he waited. And there, through the wall separating them, played the soft notes of the song.

What followed was an exchange of notes and piano duets as Lo Porto also knew how to make music on his piano. He shared the music from side-by-side pianos on his social media accounts.

Like clockwork, at 2 pm every weekend, gorgeous music played in and between the walls.

When they finally got to meet, Lo Porto learned that his neighbor was 78-year-old Emil, a Polish immigrant. He was just temporarily staying at the apartment as he waited for his house to be sold.

Lo Porto added, “He lost his wife in December due to COVID, and all he has left is the piano.”

And the reason for the weekend 2pm time is that his wife always loved it.

Emil also thanked Lo Porto for the friendship, the company, and for motivating him to play. Lo Porto promised that he would continue playing until Emil moved out.

When they said goodbye, Lo Porto posted on Instagram: “This weekend I drafted an original song, which I called ‘Emil.’ It’s about fighting loneliness, being there for each other, and about not taking anything for granted.”
