In the bustling city of Philadelphia, police officers are often seen as everyday heroes.

For Officer Eric Robbins, a fear of heights is part of his daily life, yet it didn’t stop him from performing a daring rescue that truly went above and beyond.

On December 10th, while patrolling the two-story homes on N. 64th Street, Robbins received an urgent call.

Neighbors reported a child wandering precariously on the sloped roof of a nearby house.

Though the child seemed oblivious to the danger of a 20-30 foot drop, Robbins felt the gravity of the situation keenly due to his own fear of heights.

“I just knew I had to get him off that roof,” Robbins shared.

Body cam footage captured his swift action as he gained access to the house, dashed up the stairs, and climbed out a window to reach the child.

Approaching the boy required a delicate touch.

Robbins was mindful not to startle him, explaining, “I don’t even think he knew I was there.”

The family, taken aback by the unexpected situation, expressed gratitude for Robbins’ dedication to “protecting and serving with such compassion.”

Reflecting on the rescue, Robbins acknowledged that his fear had to take a backseat.

“Instantly overcoming my fear of heights and getting him off the roof… it hit home because it could have been my kid and I would want someone to do the same,” he said.

This act of bravery, unseen by most, stands as a testament to the courage and commitment of those who serve every day.
