  • Olympic skater Madeline Schizas juggles school and sport in Milan.
  • Her honest request for an assignment extension captured hearts online.
  • Her professor joined Instagram just to support and celebrate her.

When Madeline Schizas arrived at the Winter Olympics, she was focused on perfecting her routines while balancing college work. The rigorous schedule and excitement had her reaching out to a professor for a bit of extra time on an assignment.

Her candid post about the extension request drew plenty of support and amusement on social media, with fans and fellow students cheering her on.

“Of all the reasons to ask for an extension on an assignment, this is a pretty good one. Canadian figure skater Maddie Schizas posts her email to her prof, asking for an extension. Because she’s competing at the Olympics. Attached the press release for proof of participation,” Devin Heroux shared on X.

Female Quotient posted on Instagram that Madeline Schizas got the extension.

“Since it seems everyone was quite invested, I did get my extension lol,” she said. “I can’t believe anyone cared so much.”

Madeline’s professor took support to the next level by creating an Instagram account to post a photo of himself watching her performance, adding a heartfelt message.

“So proud of you Maddie.”

Another chimed in, “Support comes in the smallest of forms. Seriously though having to worry about homework can undo a whole mindset… This teacher is THE best!!!”

Fellow teachers offered solidarity, too, with one explaining how they helped a student reschedule an exam for a job interview and celebrated the student’s success.
