  • A paraglider was just enjoying his flight when he saw an alligator at a canal.
  • Upon closer inspection of the alligator, he saw a submerged car and a person stranded on top of it.
  • The paraglider, Cristiano Piquet, made an emergency landing and managed to save the woman with the help of another man living near the canal.

When real estate broker Cristiano Piquet got on his paramotor glider on a lazy Sunday, he thought that he would just enjoy the flight in peace and quiet.  From his viewpoint, he could see the green trees and fields and the canal near Homestead.  He also saw an alligator in the canal.

Piquet said, “I turned around to get a shot of the alligator, and I saw a car under the water.”

As he took a closer look while descending, that’s when he saw a person on the roof of a submerged car!  He knew he had to make an emergency landing in order to help the person.

Piquet added that, “In that moment, I think God told me, ‘my friend, land and save that one life.’”

Upon landing, he immediately ran to the woman at the same time calling out for help.  From the rescue footage, the woman shouted “Oh my God! I fell with my car in here.”

Another man who lived near the canal heard the racket and came out to help with a rope to save the woman.

By the time the police arrived, the woman was safely out of the water although the car was still submerged. The unidentified woman was then brought to a local hospital.

The police spokesperson said, “A MDFR diver conducted a search around the submerged vehicle to make sure no one else was submerged.”

Reasons behind the vehicle ending at the canal is still under investigation.

For Piquet, it meant missing Sunday church service but he said, “God cares about her life because he put me in that moment, that perfect moment, on that day.”

Good job, Mr. Piquet!
