Pet Dog Manages Bookstore Named After Him

Published

  • Ruby is a sweet and friendly dog who’s loved by her family and community.
  • Her family decided to put up a bookstore and named it after her.
  • The dog is in-charge of greeting each customer that comes to the bookstore.

Stacy Gould and her family considered the logistics thoroughly when they first discussed opening a bookshop. Gould knew she’d be the one going to the store every day since the kids and her husband will be at school and work all day. She also knew the family dog, Ruby, would be accompanying her.

Ruby means the world to Stacy’s family, and she’s also the nicest, sweetest dog who adores everyone she meets, so they felt a bookshop where people could come in every day to say hello would appeal to her greatly. The store would be hers in many ways, and thus Ruby’s Books was born.

Gould told The Dodo:

“Ruby would have to come with me every day to the store, so we thought, ‘Why don’t we name the store after Ruby?’”

Ruby is now the bookstore’s co-owner, manager, and official greeter, and she takes her work extremely seriously. Ruby’s Bookstore has only been open for less than two years, but they have already established themselves as an important part of the community.

Gould said the customers love Ruby, who has become quite the staple in the area.

“We often joke that the people come for the books but stay for the dog!”

Ruby’s family believes she must maintain a healthy work-life balance, therefore she does not go to the store every day. She works from Monday to Friday and spends her weekends with her family. She likes every second she is in the store, though, and has a variety of responsibilities that she proudly fulfills.

According to Gould, Ruby is in charge of greeting all the customers at the door, rolling over for belly rubs, sniffing out treats within customers’ pockets, mopping the floor with her fluffy tail, and pretending to read alongside the kids in the children’s section.

Ruby loves having her own bookstore, and her family loves the fact that they can now share Ruby and the joy she brings with the community.
