The pandemic has impacted everyone, including businesses.

Small businesses, in particular, are struggling financially.

Fortunately for them, the community is always eager to help out. And for residents of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, simply posing for a family picture can give them the help that they need.

Jenn Ocken, along with several other local photographers, launched the Front Porch Project to safely capture family pictures while supporting those in need.

The initiative drew inspiration from the similarly-named Front Steps Project, which involved five-minute photoshoots with families posing right outside their homes.

The Front Steps Project has brought people together and created happy memories. It has since grown into a nationwide movement.

The Front Porch Project aims to do the same — while also helping small businesses.

The participating photographers offer front porch sessions to families — for free! They only ask them to make small online purchases at a struggling store in exchange.

And the families don’t even have to leave their homes to do so.

The project description states, “We help each other by giving. Simply buy a gift card online at your favorite local business. When I publish your photos, I will tag that small business.”

And don’t worry, the project is prioritizing everyone’s safety by practicing social distancing. Throughout each session, the photographers stay at a safe distance away and use zoom lenses to capture these priceless moments.

Jenn is fully booked at the moment, but if you live in the Baton Rouge area, you can check out other photographers’ schedules here.

By simply posing for a photo — even a candid one — you can easily show appreciation and support for the small businesses you love!

It’s amazing how the community comes together during these troubling times.
