Quick Smiles:

  • A cat named Mirage survives an incredible 380-foot fall at Bryce Canyon.
  • Pilot Chelsea Tugaw discovers Mirage and feels an immediate connection.
  • Mirage finds a loving home with the very pilot who rescued her.

In a remarkable tale of resilience, a cat named Mirage defied the odds after a dramatic fall at Bryce Canyon.

The feline’s owners were tragically found at the bottom of the gorge by tourists who quickly notified park rangers.

Amidst the chaos, no one initially realized that Mirage was also nearby.

Chelsea Tugaw, a search and rescue pilot, was on duty and spotted what seemed like a dusty backpack.

To her surprise, it was actually a soft-sided pet carrier containing Mirage.

“We couldn’t believe the cat was alive,” Chelsea shared, expressing her astonishment.

The 12-year-old cat was then taken to an animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.

Veterinarians discovered two broken ribs and damaged teeth, but thankfully, no surgery was needed.

“I thought she was injured, but I was uncertain of her future,” Chelsea admitted, relieved that Mirage was receiving the care she needed.

Once Mirage recovered, the sanctuary reached out to her late owners’ families, but they were unable to take her in.

Feeling a “special connection” to Mirage, Chelsea made the heartfelt decision to adopt her.

“I’m so ecstatic to be taking Mirage home. I felt there was a special connection with us rescuing her.”

Chelsea is committed to providing Mirage with a loving home in her golden years.

“I hope I can give her the perfect retirement life and let her be a nice lazy cat in her old age. She’s going to a really loving home.”

We can only imagine the joy Mirage will experience in her new chapter with Chelsea.
