Pregnant Stray Tears Up When She Gets Rescued [Video]
- Jacks and her wife was eating outside when they spotted a very pregnant stray named Poppy on the sidewalk.
- After giving her food, they decided to take her home — and Poppy teared up with joy!
- The couple quickly fell in love with her and decided to keep her.
Jacks Anderson and her wife were dining out late last month when they spotted a large black pittie named Poppy. The stray was laying on the sidewalk under the counter’s barstools and was just watching them eat.
Poppy just kept staring and didn’t come close to beg for food. When the stand owners saw her, they shooed her away.
“It was obvious she was scared, and she disappeared,” Jacks added.
After they finished eating, they spotted Poppy again. When they noticed that she was very pregnant, they knew they had to help her.
Jacks’ wife took their leftovers and placed them on the ground for Poppy, who was still keeping her distance.
“She was very skittish, but we could see some of the scars that she has, so I understood why she didn’t want to risk it,” she shared.
When Jacks’ wife offered Poppy some more food from her hands, they eventually bridged the distance and earned Poppy’s trust.
Moments later, they were able to get her into their car.
When Poppy realized she was finally safe, she calmed down and got comfortable.
“I started to record the video of my wife comforting her, and I realized that Poppy had tears coming from her eyes,” Jacks shared. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in a dog, and it definitely made an impact.”
The couple then took Poppy to the vet, where she was treated for fleas and worms. She was fortunately healthy otherwise and got released back into the couple’s care.
Poppy spent her first days at her new home sleeping. After a few more days, she became more active and friendly with her new family.
Poppy loves cuddles and pets, and her new humans can see that she just wanted to be loved.
Jacks and her wife thought that they would just foster Poppy until she gives birth and recovers, but they have since fallen in love with her that they decided to keep her.
She shared, “Poppy will stay with us. We’re learning more about her all the time and building trust with her. I don’t want to send her to someone else to make her go through that again. She’s earned an easier go of things.”
The loving dog also settled in quite well with their two other rescue dogs, Nacho and Frida.
Poppy gave birth just recently. Her puppies will stay with the couple until they are old enough to be adopted. Poppy, meanwhile, has already found her forever home with Jacks and her wife.
