North Charleston High School Principal Henry Darby grew up in a generation when you simply don’t ask for money but just do what you need to do.

And so, when he knew that his students were facing economic hardships, he did not hesitate in taking on two jobs to raise money.

Darby kept it a secret.  He said, “I didn’t expect the attention. I simply wanted to work for Walmart without fanfare and to use those resources for my students.”

But a good deed never goes unnoticed and it leaked out beyond Darby’s greatest imagination. He says that his mother impressed on him the importance of giving back to the community without expecting anything in return.

But Walmart is giving recognition for Darby’s efforts and arranged a special surprise for him in the form of a $50,000 check!

His boss told Darby, “You’re awesome and we appreciate you here at Walmart for all that you’re doing to support your community.”

Darby was speechless.  “Thank you so very much. This is going to go a very, very long way,” he said.

Even after the $50,000, Darby has no plans to quit his Walmart job and is sticking with the company.

And the giving has snowballed.  A GoFundMe which was set up to help out Darby in raising funds has already reached nearly $100,000 from its initial goal of $20,000.  To add to that, a sponsor who wants to remain anonymous visited Darby and offered 10 separate $5,000 scholarships!  And there’s more.  The generous donor also gave a $1,000 donation for the next 12 months.

When you do not expect anything in return, the rewards can really exceed what you have been thinking of.  Thank you, Principal Darby!
