  • Sonic is a an adorable pug that likes to play hide-and-seek with his family.
  • That’s his way of testing if they will ‘miss’ him and find him.
  • He loves doing it by making himself disappear — hiding behind a curtain and waits there patiently for a family member to find him.

Meet Sonic — the Alvarado family’s sweet little pug. His family adores him so much and Sonic definitely knows it. In fact, he has a way of testing their love and devotion to him.

Sonic loves making himself ‘disappear.’

It’s a funny habit. But for years, Sonic would go into hiding when he feels like he’s not getting enough attention. His favorite hiding spot — behind lace curtains.

He has no idea that it’s not really an effective hiding place because it offers little concealment.

But he hides behind curtains anyway. From there, he would watch how his family panic because “he’s missing.” It’s like he’s giving them a scenario on how it would feel like if he really disappears. The “pretend worry” he sees in his family when he disappears assures him of their love.

“He does not move when we call for him. He just stares,” Junior Alvarado, Sonic’s owner, told The Dodo. “He thinks that we do not see him.”

Here’s a video of Sonic delighting in his family’s desperate search. He stands behind the curtain motionless, enjoying the moment. Watch the video in full screen.

The Alvarado family always know where Sonic is hiding, of course, but they ‘pretend’ and play along to show him how much they care.

“He just peers through the curtains as we pretend to look for him,” Alvarado said.

Once Sonic senses his family has learned their lesson he’ll reveal himself at once to put them back at ease.

“We’ll make a comment like, ‘Oh, look! There’s Sonic!’” Alvarado said.

Sonic enjoys doing this stunt almost every day, and his family always pass the test. Sonic is truly loved.

“He’s a very pampered dog,” Alvarado said. “We are animal lovers. We treat him like family.”
