Pup gets his own retirement-home cabin from owner

  • Lorenzo Buffa adopted Myles 13 years ago and the two have been best friends since then.
  • Now that Myles is quite old, with several diagnoses coming in, Lorenzo decided to give him a retirement home: a cabin in the woods.
  • Myles is loving his new cabin life, with all the fresh air, food and the relaxing nature space it offers.

When Lorenzo Buffa locked eyes with a shelter dog 13 years ago — who happened to be just out for a walk in a park by a local shelter — he knew he had to take him home. And he did.

“I saw him and he saw me, and his ears went straight up,” Lorenzo told The Dodo. “I knew he chose me!”

Since then, Lorenzo and Myles have been each other’s soulmate. They love doing things together — hiking, swimming, napping, playing, you name it.

Myles is such a happy doggo, and he enjoys life, much more when his dad is by his side. But as he grows older, getting around gets more complicated.

Myles has been diagnosed with cataracts, arthritis and heart failure, making it hard for him to get around. But all these didn’t stop the happy pup from enjoying life: this time, a little slower.

The doting dad, too, has always wanted Myles to never stop relishing the latter moments in his life. And he was eager to help him do that.

So, Lorenzo found the perfect “retirement home” just for him. He bought a cabin in the woods and named it Camp Myles.

“I had always told him I would give him land and retire him to the woods,” the fur dad said. “I always figured by my mid-30s, I would have left the city. The pandemic really showed me what I value and that both he and I need to move towards a simpler life.”

Lorenzo renovated the cabin home, where he, Myles and his two cats, Tofu and Mama, now live.

“I think [his favorite part is] both being lazy on the deck or porch and relaxing in nature, as well as roaming the property and going on walks,” Lorenzo said. “So much to smell, no cars, no sirens — it’s perfect for both of us!”

Moving in was one of the greatest decisions Lorenzo has ever done. Everyone in their little family is loving the cabin life, especially Myles, who has since been responding really well to his meds.

Myles absolutely loves the fresh air from his new life in the cabin, and the new foods he’s been trying for the first time, not to mention the relaxing nature around them 24/7.

Thirteen years of togetherness is such a long time. And in those years, Myles has always been there for his dad. In return, Lorenzo vowed to give him nothing but the best — and the cabin home is definitely one of them.
