Lindsey Patterson, a 26-year-old from North Carolina, recently welcomed a tiny Havanese puppy named Penny into her life. Since then, Patterson has been sharing delightful snippets of her life with Penny on her TikTok account, @linzpatt.

Penny joined Patterson’s family as a surprise for her boyfriend, Phil, who had long wished for a dog, particularly a Havanese.

“I’ve always loved dogs but wasn’t ready until one day it just clicked and I thought it would be so fun to surprise him,” she shared via TikTok.

Penny quickly became a star on social media, with one video, in particular, capturing the hearts of millions. The clip, which shows Penny’s amusing reaction to seeing herself on a phone camera, has amassed over 5.3 million views.

In the video, Patterson can be seen lying on the floor with Penny before asking the camera, “Can you guys watch my dog for a second?” She then steps out of the frame.

Initially, Penny ignores the camera, focusing on a toy almost her size. But as soon as she catches her reflection, she begins to bark and growl at what she might think is another puppy.

Penny’s antics continue until Patterson returns, concluding the video with, “Thanks, that’s all.”

Patterson described the video as “a total accident,” explaining that Penny was already barking at the camera, prompting her to record the moment.

“It was the first time that I had even recorded her on a front-facing camera where she could see herself,” she mentioned, noting that she was inspired by a TikTok trend where people leave friends, kids, or animals in front of a camera.

“It was a one-take thing, I barely edited it,” Patterson added, expressing her surprise at the video’s success given how little thought she put into it.

The TikTok community embraced the video, with over 820,000 likes since its posting on September 4. One user humorously commented, “10/10 she’s very sassy but I’d definitely watch again.”

Another quipped, “I didn’t realize we had beef,” while a third noted, “Ma’am, he sassed us 6 times, at least.”

Patterson, who works with influencers, has found joy in creating her own content. Penny’s viral fame has even led to strangers recognizing the pup on the street.

“Even just walking down the street I love how happy seeing a puppy makes people, how they remark to their friends and have big smiles,” Patterson said. “So to be able to do that on the internet [on] a big scale has made me really happy.”

The Havanese breed is a popular choice among dog owners in the United States, frequently appearing around 25th on the American Kennel Club’s list of popular breeds.
