  • When Eric the Chihuahua arrived at the shelter in July, he was covered in ticks and was later diagnosed with a cancerous tumor.
  • After four months and 17 rounds of chemotherapy, Eric successfully beat cancer.
  • He also found his forever family shortly after!

A resilient pup has conquered his months-long battle over cancer and found his forever family.

When Eric the Chihuahua arrived at the San Diego Humane Society in July, he was far from healthy.

He was “covered in ticks and had blood on his feet,” and was later diagnosed to have Ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease, and a cancerous tumor.

Just a week later, he started his first round of chemotherapy. He had to undergo 17 rounds of weekly chemotherapy, as well as treatment for Ehrlichiosis, and four additional months of veterinary care. His foster family helped him through it all.

The San Diego Humane Society then announced on Nov. 13, “Four months and 17 rounds of chemotherapy later, everyone who cared for Eric is thrilled to see that this resilient pup is now cancer-free.”

The shelter celebrated his success with a special party. They gave him his very own cake and took photos with everyone who helped care for him.

Finally, Eric was ready for adoption.

Shortly after his cancer-free diagnosis was announced, the three-year-old Chihuahua quickly found his forever family!

Eric had to battle several health issues, but he blazed through it all and came out on top.

While he is no longer available for adoption, the shelter still has several animals up for adoption: dogs, cats, rats, rabbits, reptiles, and birds. You can check out the San Diego Humane Society website to learn more.
