  • A mom and her puppy were seen running around a busy street in Tampa Bay, Florida by two officers who turned them over to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
  • The two officers returned to the place where they saw the mom and pup and found a closed suitcase full of pups.
  • They found out that the pups belonged to the mom they rescued earlier and immediately reunited them at the shelter.

When two officers saw a dog and her pup dodging traffic on a busy street in a Florida neighborhood, they stopped and helped the pair and brought them to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.  Getting them to safety is not the end of the story.

The officers decided to go back to the place where they found the mom and puppy to find out how the two got to be there. And that’s where they saw a closed suitcase at the back of a vacation rental. They approached the closed bag and they heard squeals coming from it.

And when they opened the suitcase, seven tiny squiggly puppies were crying out!

As the officers further investigated, that is when they realized that the puppies belonged to the mom that they rescued earlier.  The mom must have been trying to ask for help when they found her and was trying to lead them to the suitcase.

In the society’s Facebook post of the events, it said that they are grateful that the officers returned to the scene to save these puppies.  They added, “Mom, a Terrier Mix, is here resting, and all seven 5-week-old puppies are in our puppy nursery being taken care of by our amazing staff.”

If not for the mom who ran around seeking help and the officers digging in to get to the bottom of it,  the puppies would not have been found in time.

The puppies were dehydrated but they are now doing great at the shelter.  They have benefitted from the love and snuggles that the shelter staff has been showering them with.

Regan Blessinger, spokesperson for the Humane Society of Tampa Bay said, “They’re super playful and happy, growing and getting stronger. [Soon], they’ll be ready for their forever homes!”

May all of the pups and their mom be adopted soon!
