  • A retired police officer was heartbroken when his exemplary service medal was stolen from their home.
  • YouTuber Dave Jordan and his teen fan Ryan Davenport were doing a river cleanup when Ryan snagged a metal box with the medal in it.
  • Dave and Ryan will return the medal to the retired police officer Geoffrey Baron.

When burglars come into your home, they do not care about the sentimental value of the things that they steal.  They are only after the money that they would get in exchange for the stolen items.

But life has a way of returning the things lost to those who deserve it and value it.

Geoffrey Barron was awarded the Exemplary Service Medal when he retired after 32 years of service at the Northampton Police. Now aged 82, he suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and the medal is one of the things that he could remember.

That is why when thieves entered their home and stole their jewelry, cash, passports and the medal last year, Geoffrey was heartbroken.  He thought it was lost forever.

But a one-in-a-million occurrence changed all that.

Dave Jordan is a YouTube sensation for his videos of using a large magnet to fish out of rivers.  He organized a little clean-up on the River Rene and brought along his dad and a teenage fan, Ryan Davenport, to the river treasure hunt.

Jordan said, “We would have never found the medal if we hadn’t tackled all the rubbish in the river first. At first, we found old bits of shopping carts and other metal items but about 30 minutes into our fish, Ryan pulled out the box, and it’s got ‘police long service medal’ written on it.”

Inside was the medal engraved with Geoffrey’s name and badge number, which made locating the rightful owner easier.

And they immediately looked for the owner’s phone number online and called them.

Jordan added, “When I told Geoffrey’s wife Maureen, we had found the medal over the phone, she was over the moon, because they never thought it would be found.”

And when Maureen informed Geoffrey, “His face lit up when I told him we got it and it was going to be presented to him by the young man who found it.”

For Jordan and Ryan, finding the medal and giving it back to its rightful owner is the best reward.
