Shelter Dogs Excitedly Choose Toys From Christmas Sleigh [Video]

Some would argue that the best thing about the holidays is the presents. Giving is a gift itself, and watching the recipients’ excited reactions makes it even better. For one animal sanctuary, they have made it an annual tradition to fill a “Santa Sleigh” with various gifts for their lovable residents.

The Best Friends Animal Society fills up a flatbed trailer fashioned as Santa’s sleigh with hundreds of dog toys, beds, and blankets every year ahead of Christmas.

Over three dozen dogs from their Kanab, Utah, sanctuary get to hop inside and choose their favorite as their present. And their reactions are truly a sight to see!

Some dogs are perfectly content to chill among the toys and receive some pets and scratches. Others calmly choose their present. But in the clip above, we can see an excited Beauty in a sea of toys. And her excitement is contagious!

According to Best Friends, the toys are usually donated.

After about three dozen dogs get their picks, the remaining toys will be distributed to the rest of the sanctuary residents, including other animals such as cats.

“This tradition at Best Friends is so much fun,” said chief sanctuary officer Judah Battista. “Seeing the dogs jump around and getting excited over their gifts is like seeing little kids on Christmas morning. And what we all get in return is a feeling of joy. Which is really what this time of year is all about.”
