  • Debbie Pearl founded Dream Fetchers, a nonprofit that rescues physically and mentally different dogs.
  • Dream Fetchers has a program that trains rescued dogs and allows them to spread unconditional love to similarly-different humans.
  • So far, the program has deployed 6 dogs called The Unstoppables in care centers like hospitals and nursing homes to heal and teach compassion, kindness and inclusion.

Heroes come in all shapes, sizes and species.  This time, a group of 6 “handicapable” dogs called ‘The Unstoppables’ is saving similarly-challenged people.

Debbie Pearl of Huntington Beach, California has been rescuing dogs with physical and mental differences and she founded the nonprofit Dream Fetchers to pair the dogs with humans who are in the same condition as them.

Debbie explained, “Here at Dream Fetchers, we live by a code to better the lives of those around us.” She added, “In service to this code, we recognize and lean on the power that dogs have to heal those around them. Their unconditional love, their unfailing ability to listen to us when we need to be heard, and the peace that comes with their presence are what make them one of the world’s greatest forms of medicine.”

The six dogs namely Speedy, Zeek, Eddie, Pop, Kala, and Bunny Pop were rescued from horrible and tragic circumstances.  They were abandoned, left for dead, or abused because they have physical and mental differences. They need prosthetics and wheelchairs to move around.

Yet in spite of what they went through, they have maintained their happy personalities and enthusiasm for life.  And whoever gets to meet them gets sprinkled with happy vibes.

As The Unstoppables, they shine their light in hospitals, nursing homes, schools and other caregiving centers. Their canine love and resilience teach compassion, kindness, and inclusion.  They serve as inspiration for everyone to follow.

Soon, there will be a children’s book about the dogs’ adventures called “The Unstoppables” to help children learn more about them and how they have brought joy to the world.

When Debbie thought of the idea of Dream Fetchers, she believed that the only journey that is impossible is the one that we never start.  Well, she took that first big step by rescuing the animals and followed it through with extensive training and all the time giving them love and care until they thrived. It might not have been easy as they rely solely on donations for the program to run but she has proven it is possible.

And it is not just the lives of the animals that have been changed but the human lives who have found new courage to hope and be well like The Unstoppables.

There’s just no stopping love.  And the world is a lot better with it.
