Saudi conservationists have transformed a sprawling solar farm into a safe haven for threatened Arabian sand gazelles. The facility sits within the vast Prince bin Salman Nature Reserve, where the sun-baked landscape now shelters the delicate animals.

Panels arranged in wide rows provide vital shade, creating cooler micro-climates that support grasses and shrubs the gazelles rely on for food and cover.

“We didn’t expect the gazelles to adopt the solar site so quickly,” said reserve director Dr. Ahmed Al-Mansour. “But the shade and protection from predators have turned it into an ideal breeding ground.”

The project demonstrates how renewable energy infrastructure can coexist with biodiversity goals, offering a hopeful model for other arid regions.
