An animal rescue in Missouri found a tiny stray dog that wasn’t feeling his best because of his 10-pound thick mats of fur. The poor pup could barely see through it.

Stray Rescue of St. Louis knows exactly what to do to help the dog the animal rescue later named Crunchy. Because he is an emergency case, they took him in and gave the dog the transformation of a lifetime.

“Crunchy was picked up by our local animal control,” Natalie Thompson, director of marketing at the rescue, told The Dodo. “They contacted us to see if we could help him, so we [did, and] immediately sedated him and went to work.”

And “work,” they did. Natalie started by shaving the pup’s matted hair. It weighed 10 pounds. They did a great job nursing Crunchy back to health.

“He was very scared when he first woke up after being sedated and shaved and cleaned,” Natalie said. “He would snap and hide — but he enjoyed being tucked in.”

Sensing that he could trust everyone who cared for him, Crunchy started warming up to all at the rescue and began lying in their laps.

“We’ll never forget the day he started to play and show his adorable personality,” Natalie recalled.

Natalie added that “Crunchy had a long line of people waiting for him to be cleared for adoption.” She updated that Crunchy has been “adopted” and assured that he will never be neglected again.

They already adore him!”

Who wouldn’t? Look at that face.
