A couple from the U.K. experienced an unexpected twist on the last day of their holiday in Cyprus when a stray puppy wandered into their villa.

This adorable pup, later named Nala, refused to leave their side, capturing their hearts immediately.

In a TikTok post shared in June under the username @dudleyandnala, the couple recounted how Nala appeared just 24 hours before their departure.

“She spent the whole day around the pool with us. We knew we couldn’t leave her on the streets at just 4 months old so we arranged to fly her to the UK.”

They took Nala to the vet to start the process of bringing her home on the very day they were flying back.

“Flew home knowing we wouldn’t see her for 4 months whilst she was in quarantine. She was fostered so we had regular updates. After a very long wait she was about to fly home. We tracked her flight home the whole way.”

When Nala finally landed at Heathrow Airport, she was introduced to her new big brother, Dudley.

The two dogs hit it off instantly, forming a bond that would last a lifetime.

“From street dog to her forever home,” read a caption shared along with the joyful post.

Each year, 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, averaging 17,260 daily, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

In January 2023 alone, pet shelters took in 46,807 dogs and cats, an increase of 1,744 from January 2022, as reported by the 24Pet Shelter Watch Report.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized annually, prompting shelters to promote adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

Animal shelters encourage people to adopt pets instead of buying them, emphasizing that adoption is a process requiring patience and dedication.

The RSPCA outlines that after choosing a pup online and completing the re-homing application, potential pet parents can get to know their chosen pup and start home visits with shelter staff.

Once everything is ready, you can bring your new pup home and begin your life together.
