  • Liberty University student Ally Cole sat next to Ruby Wierzbicki on a bus on April 14 on her way to class.
  • The two started conversing then realized they grew up in the same orphanage in China.

Two little girls, Ally Cole and Ruby Wierzbicki, grew up and became friends at an orphanage in China. They played together and were often seen standing next to each other in old photos. They lost touch when they were adopted by separate families in the U.S. when they were still toddlers.

Ally, a sophomore at the Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, sat on a campus bus one day in April and started a conversation with a freshman student next to her, Ruby.

Shortly after, they found out they were best friends when they were toddlers.

“As we talked, I asked where she was originally from, and her response was China!” Ally shared on Facebook. “She had pulled up a picture of her on a slide […] and I realized that background looked very familiar. So, I pulled up a picture of my own with a similar slide picture, and it turns out we are from the same orphanage!”

Both girls used to live at the Jinan Social Welfare Institute in China.

After talking non-stop and sharing old photos, they remember some of the kids at the orphanage.

“We were quiet for a little bit because I think we were both just in shock,” Ruby said.

Ally agreed: “I think I was just in shock that I actually knew someone from my past. I think it didn’t really hit me until after I went to class.”

Is it fate that brought them together?

“It’s covered in God’s fingerprints,” Ruby said. “There’s no way it wasn’t God that orchestrated this.”

Ally and Ruby decided to reach out to other former friends from the Chinese orphanage. They found out that an old friend named Isaac Rice lives in North Carolina. Then, the three of them had a reunion after 13 long years.
