Seventeen-year-old Anthony Zhongor did not hesitate to dive into the water to save a woman who was trapped inside a sinking car. Surveillance video caught the moment the 18-year-old Mia Samolinski drove her car into the bay and the dramatic rescue.

Mia had accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes, according to a press release by the Suffolk County Police Department.

The incident happened after 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

“I just hear a huge splash and everyone running toward the dock,” Anthony told CBS News. He and several onlookers could hear Mia struggling to get out of the car as it started to sink.

“That’s what really made me jump in the water, because she was banging on door trying to break it, kind of got scared. So I just jumped in,” Anthony said.

Anthony dove into the water immediately to pull Mia out of her SUV. He was able to open the driver’s side door of the Suburu and helped Mia out of the vehicle and assist her safely to the dock.

“The real hero of the day is Anthony, without a doubt. There were a group of people on the dock. They were filming it. He did something about it,” the Mia’s father, Charlie, said.

He added: “She’s here today because of him. A car can be replaced. Things can be replaced. My daughter? Irreplaceable.”

Hats off to you, Anthony!
