  • A teen who was diagnosed aplastic anemia qualified for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
  • But instead of outright asking for material things, the thoughtful Abraham said that he wanted to feed the homeless.
  • Through his wish, the foundation will be providing food for the homeless for a year.

When 13-year-old Adeola “Abraham” Olagbegi was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness last year, he qualified for a Make-A-Wish opportunity. But instead of wishing for material possessions, the thoughtful teen wanted to help the homeless people in his community.

Abraham was diagnosed with a rare disease, aplastic anemia, in 2020. His condition hinders the production of new blood cells, leaving him fatigued and prone to infection and uncontrolled bleeding.

After going through a successful bone marrow transplant, he found out that he had an opportunity to have one of his dreams fulfilled through Make-A-Wish.

Miriam told CBS News how Abraham decided on his wish: “We were coming home from one of his doctor appointments and he said, ‘Mom, I thought about it, and I really want to feed the homeless.’”

The teen and his mom, Miriam, have already been providing food to the homeless in their neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi.

Miriam asked his son if he was sure. He could ask for a lot, after all, such as a new gaming system.

Abraham went on to feed about 80 people in their area in September, with the help of the foundation.

The thoughtful teen shared, “When the homeless people get the plate, some of them would come back and sing to us and thank us. And it just really feels good, it warms our hearts. And my parents always taught us that it’s a blessing to be a blessing.”

The foundation pledged to feed the homeless in Jackson every third Saturday until August 2022. Abraham also plans to continue his mission by starting a non-profit called “Abraham’s Table.”

The foundation also gave Abraham a few gifts that could help him start a YouTube channel, such as a new laptop, a microphone, and a ring light.

Miriam told CBS News that they’re happy they were able to continue their mission.

“If I was out there on the streets, homeless, I would want somebody at some point to think of me and to do something special for me,” she added. “So, that’s what I try to instill in my kids and we just try to pay it forward, by doing what we were raised to do.”
