‘The Rock’ Surprises Friend With A New Truck: “He Took Me In When I Was Homeless” [Video]

Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson was named the “Most Likable Person in the World” by The Profile late last month. And the award is only fitting for the former wrestler.

Recently, he proved that he deserved the award by honoring one of the most important people in his life. He shared on Instagram the event, showing how he surprised one man with a brand new truck.

But what’s more heartwarming is the story behind their friendship. The Rock said he came to know “Downtown Bruno” during one of the darkest times of his life. “Downtown Bruno” is Bruno Lauer.

“My mom and I were evicted off the island of Hawaii and I was sent to Nashville, Tennessee to live with my dad,” Johnson wrote in the post.

“When I landed in Nashville, I quickly found out I wasn’t gonna live with my dad. Shit happens, plans change and that’s the way it goes. Instead, I told I was gonna live with a guy named Bruno. Who at the time lived in a tiny room at a spot called the Alamo Plaza motel. Bruno could’ve (and should’ve) said hell no, I’m not takin’ in some kid who I don’t know.”

“But he didn’t,” Johnson remarked. “He took this punk kid in and we became lifelong friends.”

The accompanying video explains how the two men met and how they grew their friendship over the years. Bruno lent The Rock $40 to buy his first car at 15, sold for that low, low price by “a crackhead,” and The Rock coming to live with Bruno again seven years later when he was starting his pro wrestling career.

Johnson characterized the gift of a brand-new truck as “returning the favor” for helping him get his not-as-nice first car, but also as a gesture of gratitude for exhibiting kindness throughout his life.

That’s really nice of you Dwayne.
