Koda, 9, has earned the nickname “Canine Yoda,” not just because of his distinct-looking ears, but also for helping his owner overcome her fear of dogs. Canine Yoda has since helped others experience the joy that dogs can bring into a person’s life.

Gordon, an 11-year-old Shiba Inu, was paralyzed after he was hit by a car in Taiwan. He was given a second chance at life after he recovered from his injuries, thanks to his forever family, with whom he now lives in the U.S.

The contest winner will be announced on Oct. 12.

The grand prize will include a year’s supply of dog food from the PEDIGREE® brand, a feature in PEOPLE Magazine and on People.com, a custom photoshoot, and a $1,000 donation to their chosen pet rescue organization.
