Thousands of dog parents have entered their beloved rescue dogs for a chance to win the 2022 PEOPLE’s World’s Cutest Rescue Dog Contest, which is presented by the PEDIGREE® brand.
After the finalists were narrowed down to 10, voters further narrowed the entries down to the top 3: Mugsy, Koda, and Gordon. The adorable trio was announced on Thursday on The Talk, with the judges acknowledging that a difficult choice is ahead of them.
The Talk hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Jerry O’Connell, and Natalie Morales, who are also rescue dog parents themselves, are among this year’s panel of judges. Other judges include PEOPLE Pets editor Kelli Bender and PEDIGREE Foundation ambassador Evan Satinoff.
Get to know the precious pooches that made it to the top 3 of the 2022 World’s Cutest Rescue Dog Contest:
Mugsy is a 5-year-old Pekingese and pug mix described as “a unicorn among dogs” by his family, who instantly fell in love with his short little legs, bat ears, and big wrinkly face. His sweet smile is also a sure winner!
Koda, 9, has earned the nickname “Canine Yoda,” not just because of his distinct-looking ears, but also for helping his owner overcome her fear of dogs. Canine Yoda has since helped others experience the joy that dogs can bring into a person’s life.
Gordon, an 11-year-old Shiba Inu, was paralyzed after he was hit by a car in Taiwan. He was given a second chance at life after he recovered from his injuries, thanks to his forever family, with whom he now lives in the U.S.
The contest winner will be announced on Oct. 12.
The grand prize will include a year’s supply of dog food from the PEDIGREE® brand, a feature in PEOPLE Magazine and on People.com, a custom photoshoot, and a $1,000 donation to their chosen pet rescue organization.
