All around the world, it is not just the surf dudes and dudettes that have been showing their confidence and balance on a surfboard. Man’s best friend, the dog, has also shown their talent in chasing and riding the waves.
At the eighth annual East Coast Dog Surfing Championships in Florida, the water-loving canines excitedly competed for a fundraiser that would benefit the Brevard Humane Society.
Five-year-old Lab Lily showed a strong performance for almost 2,000 human spectators on the beach and surfed her way to the championship. Her owner, Michael Vogt, said that Lily had a blast at the event and gave her winnings to the humane society.
“It was fun but it all benefits the Brevard Humane Society and that’s what’s important,” Vogt added.
It was not just Lily who donated her winnings back but also Darcy and Winston, first-place winners of the Red Carpet Runway contest at the 57th annual Easter Surf Fest.
As a retriever, Lily has taken naturally to the water and the surfboard even as a puppy. So, for surfing pup parent aspirants, train them young and practice precaution. Do not force them to surf if they show reluctant behavior. When you feel that they are already comfortable in the water and on the surfboard, buy them a well-fitting doggy life jacket to keep them safe.
Who knows that with practice and patience, your pup would be the next surfing sensation?
These pups (and their humans) showed that you can help others and have fun at the same time.
