  • Adorable Kylo is often called a cat burglar or a kleptocat in his neighborhood for stealing hundreds of toys.
  • The ginger cat, nicknamed ‘Pirate Kitty’, gifts the toys he stole to homeowners.
  • Stealing is not okay but gift-bearing Kylo certainly brought joy to the entire neighborhood.

Kylo is a three-year-old ginger cat who has a penchant for stealing toys. Nicknamed “Pirate Kitty,” Kylo has brought joy to a neighborhood in Brisbane, Australia by presenting homeowners stolen toys.

When Kay McCall and her husband moved into their new home in Ferny Hills, Kylo hopped over the fence for pats and scratches. He became a daily visitor since then.

One day, Kay noticed a few toys in the backyard. Then they started to accumulate.

“Most days the presents kept coming, and some days there was just one, and some days there was quite a few, and some days there were none,” Kay told ABC News.

The couple said they were excited to wake up each morning to find out what the cat had brought them.

“After a while, we just accumulated a ridiculous number—literally an entire table-full,” Kay said, posting photos of the cat’s haul to a community Facebook group.

As it turned out, the McCalls were not the only home visited by the Pirate Kitty. Dozens of residents commented that he had brought them toys, too.

“Everyone fell in love with him on the spot, and he sort of became … a community icon,” Kay said.  “There was actually a sense that he was the community’s pirate cat.”

Eventually, Kay found out that Pirate Kitty was not a stray. She tracked down the cat’s owners however, they figured they could no longer keep their pet safely. They asked Kay to help find him a new home.

Ingrid Moyle, a resident who had been following the Pirate Kitty’s adventures, said her family “had a lot of geriatrics pass in the last few months, so we had a kitty-sized hole in our hearts”.

She happily adopted the Pirate Kitty.

Now fully settled into his new home, the Pirate Kitty remains inside but continues to entertain fans as Ingrid still shares photos and stories of his exploits to the community’s Facebook page.

The McCalls and other families now visit him at his new home.

“He’s a local celebrity,” Ingrid said.
