  • Penny the kitty was near death when she arrived at the shelter.
  • She survived a hydrocephalus diagnosis through treatment and has now become a feisty kitty.
  • Penny has also recovered her hearing, vision, and full-body movements.

The will to survive is strong in this kitty!

Foster mom Shelley recalls, “When I got her, she was in a coma. She was blind, deaf, she couldn’t walk, and she was freezing cold. And I thought she was dying.”

Penny was barely alive but Shelley did not give up on her. She kept Penny warm, fed her with an eyedropper, and when she retired for the night, hoped that the kitty would make it through.

When she checked on her the next morning, Penny was alive! She did not give up on life just as her foster mom did not give up on her.

During an MRI, Penny was found to have hydrocephalus or water on the brain. This condition has a high mortality rate but Penny survived the condition and was better after the seven-day therapeutic treatment.

She did not even have to be bottle-fed as she can eat regular food from a dish! What a fighter!

And as she grew stronger, she also learned to walk and show some feistiness.

She went from crawling to tussling with other cats.

Shelley shared, “Normally, kittens just understand that when you get whacked by a bigger cat you’ve got to back off, but she just keeps going in and in. She’s like a little shark.”

To add to that, Penny can now move her body normally.  She can run and has regained 90% of her vision and her hearing.

Shelley said, “She really inspired me not to give up.”

Penny has the fiercest will to live and we could all learn from her. Whoever gets to adopt her and be her forever home, you have one tough cookie coming.
