In recent weeks, we have seen a slew of distressing images and videos emerging from war-torn Ukraine.

There are, nevertheless, signs of hope and humanism among the horrors of disaster and displacement.

On Monday, Trey Yingst, a foreign correspondent stationed in Ukraine, took a break from his war reports to highlight a touching picture of love and care set against the backdrop of the devastated city of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

Yingst shared a video on Twitter of a young woman on the street carrying a cat in her arms, bringing comfort to the animal and, no doubt, receiving it in return, while air raid sirens blast a frightening alarm.

It’s unknown whether the woman knew the cat before or if they met for the first time, but acts of kindness in the face of constant adversity aren’t confined to pets.

Another video from Yingst showed an older gentleman feeding pigeons while the war raged around them.

“Humanity continues,” Yingst wrote.

Of course, these are only a few examples of gestures of generosity during a difficult time for Ukrainians, and there are undoubtedly numerous others that go unnoticed by a reporter’s camera.
