Venice Museum Opens Public View of Bellini Restoration

Venice is offering a rare glimpse into the delicate world of art conservation as experts begin restoring a 500-year-old masterpiece by Giovanni Bellini. Visitors to the Galleria dell’Accademia can now observe the intricate stages of preservation through a specially installed public workspace.

This massive wood-panel painting was originally created for the Church of San Giobbe during the late 15th century and represents a pivotal shift in altar art. Over the centuries, the poplar wood panels have weathered significant changes, prompting this comprehensive two-year restorative effort.
