Volunteers Build 10,027 Beds for Children in Need

An incredible collaborative effort at the Charlotte Convention Center resulted in 10,027 handcrafted beds for children in need.

Over 6,500 volunteers worked around the clock to turn 200 miles of raw lumber into comfortable sleeping spaces within just 24 hours.

The charity Sleep in Heavenly Peace coordinated the massive assembly line to address the reality that many children lack their own beds.

Teams moved in perfect sync across 16 lines, handling everything from sanding to assembly.

“I’m thinking about my own kids,” said Jenna Restrepo, a volunteer and product manager.

“I hope every child feels as safe and comfortable as mine.”

Medical experts note that consistent, quality sleep is vital for child health and learning development.

This initiative ensures thousands of students will have the rest they need to succeed in school and life.

“Without consistent, quality sleep, kids fall behind in ways that affect their health and learning,” explained Dr. Douglas Kirsch.

What began as stacks of wood transformed into a symbol of community support and hope.

These thousands of finished beds represent a brighter, more rested future for families nationwide.
