Wallet Returned After 46 Years Relives Memories for Owner [Video]

A surprising discovery and a little help from social media reunited a lost wallet to its owner after over four decades.

The Majestic Ventura Theater took the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to remodel.

One of the theater staff, Tom Stevens, told KEYT, “The other day one of our employees was changing out some light bulbs and the chandelier dropped a couple of inches, and we had to fix it.”

Tom said he had to climb to the attic to help. There, among movie stubs, soda cans, and candy bar wrappers, was an unusual discovery: a very old wallet.

While checking for identification, Tom found a Grateful Dead concert ticket, old photos, and a very old driver’s license that belonged to one Colleen Distin. And so, he shared the picture on Facebook to ask for help locating the owner.

Colleen, who still lives in Ventura, was eventually directed to the post, after which she got reunited with the wallet she had lost 46 years ago.

“It is really wonderful, it really is. I am kind of emotional,” Colleen told KEYT.

Memories came flooding back as she looked through the old photographs, especially of the ones of her late mother.

Colleen shared, “Pictures of my mom which was really sweet because she passed away a couple of years ago. Holy crap. It is hard to explain the feeling that I had because it is kind of an emotional one and excitement.”

No one knows how the wallet ended up among junk in the attic, but Tom is only happy to have helped in the reunion.

Tom called the whole experience “amazing.”

He told KEYT, “I am so glad she found it, to see all those memories from that long ago.”
