Watch: Curious Meeting of Small Dog and Mountain Lion at Backyard Door

Sarah Bole of Grand Lake, Colorado, returned home from a walk to a terrifying sight. She found a huge mountain lion in her backyard staring down at her pet dog. Good thing the small dog was safely sitting inside looking out the glass of the back door.

Sarah recorded the face-to-face meeting between the big cat and her pet and posted the video on Facebook, where it has garnered hundreds of thousands of views.

In the video, Sarah’s dog looks out at the mountain lion standing near the patio furniture on the other side of the glass. Then suddenly, the wild cat steps closer to the door where the dog is sitting and starts scratching at the glass. It even placed its enormous paw up near the dog’s face.

While many others might be scared to be this close to a carnivorous wild animal, the dog treats the encounter like he is meeting a new friend. The clip shows the dog wagging his tail as the lion draws nearer, ignoring his owner’s shouts to get away from the glass. Eventually, the mountain lion walks away from the dog and the house and returns to nearby woods.

Sarah told Storyful after the encounter that she was shaken by the face-to-face meeting but never felt like the mountain lion was “aggressive” towards her or her pet.

“It was just as curious as my dog to figure out what was on the other side of the glass,” she said of the wild cat.
