  • College student Josh Swain jokingly called all the other Josh Swains for a showdown to be the rightful owner of the name.
  • The joke made out of pandemic boredom had spread and brought thousands of Joshes to the huge pool noodle battle on April 21.
  • A four-year-old Josh was declared as the true champion.

Calling all Joshes.

This was what college student Josh Swain playfully did on social media last year, getting so bored with all the lockdowns given the peak of the novel coronavirus pandemic. He jokingly challenged all Josh Swains on social media to a duel. Whoever wins will be the rightful owner of the name.

“You’re probably wondering why I’ve gathered you all here today,” he wrote to the other Josh Swains.

Only a few Josh Swains replied to his message, but the screenshot of his post that went viral did the work for him. The word spread on its own and the battle was on.

“It was entirely a joke,” Josh said. “I did not expect people to be as adamant about this as they are right now. I didn’t expect the whole internet to take it and start contacting every ‘Josh’ they knew.”

The main Josh picked a random location and asked all the other Joshes to show up for a huge pool noodle battle set on April 24, 2021.

Hundreds of Joshes showed up at an Air Park in Lincoln, Nebraska, all ready to be hailed as the one true Josh!

A “grueling and righteous” battle of Rock, Paper, Scissors between the original Josh and another Josh Swain from Omaha, Nebraska opened the event.

To make the game more meaningful and productive, Josh asked people to make donations to Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, and bring food to be donated to a local food bank. All the Joshes have come together and raised over $12,000 and counting!

The fun continued and the Josh Battle Royale hailed one true champion — not the Josh we might have been expecting, but four-year-old Josh Vinson Jr who got the “Little Josh” name.

Little Josh, who picked a bright red pool noodle, was the last man standing and received a Burger King crown and a gilded belt, as the crowd was cheering on him.

He told a reporter, “I fight everyone!”

The original Josh later on learned that Little Josh had been a patient in the Children’s Hospital for suffering seizures when he was two. For Josh, it was meant to be that the four-year-old kid helped in raising money to support other kids.

Well, big or little Josh, you’ve all done a great job.
