Cat Only Wants To Drink From A Hamster Water Bottle and Bathroom Shower Only
- This cat refuses to drink from the water bowl, instead, she drinks from the shower faucets.
- Her family wonders how this came about but decided to support her nonetheless by buying her a hamster bottle to drink from.
- The cat enjoys the hamster bottle but still sneaks into the bathroom sometimes to drink from the shower.
Sunny decided, at one point, that drinking directly from the water bowl is no longer an option. Jessica Hall noticed that her cat decided she would only drink from the shower faucet in place of the water bowls.
The family was confused about this change, mainly because there had been no changes in the daily routine arranged for the cat since she was a kitten. This shower faucet preference is as unexpected as it is confusing.
“She has trained us (yes, that’s right, trained US) to turn on the faucet in the shower,” Jessica Hall, said. “She’s very picky on how the water drips so we have to get it just right for her.”
This refusal to drink from her water bowl makes it difficult to leave the cat on her own. Leaving the shower faucet on every time the Halls would have to go outside is impractical, so they decided to get a little creative.
“I wanted her to have access to water even without us being there so that’s when we got the idea of using the hamster bottle,” Jessica said. “We figured it’s similar to drinking from a faucet so maybe she would enjoy it. It was a long shot but definitely worth a try.”
The Halls bought home a hamster bottle and set it up for their cat, thinking that this hamster bottle would be a substitute for the shower faucet. The plan set in motion relies on teaching the cat how to use the thing.
“To train Sunny, I would find her waiting for me at the bathtub for her usual water break, lure her to the hamster bottle instead, and squeeze the top of the bottle so that water dripped out,” Jessica said. “She would catch the drops like she would in the tub, and eventually I squeezed less so that she would have to lick the nozzle. I kept doing this all day periodically until finally we saw her approach the bottle on her own and drink from it. We were so excited!”
The plan has worked. The cat loves her new hamster bottle, not drinking from anything but the new thing when the shower room is unavailable. The preference over the water bowl remains unsolved to this day, but it does not matter to the family, especially now that the cat seems to enjoy her new hamster bottle.
Sunny maintains her preference, drinking the shower faucet in times that somebody else is using the bathroom, but that is probably because showers are so much fun!
