Two Rescue Baby Elephants Immediately Become BFFs The Moment They Meet [Video]

• Elephants hug each other by wrapping their trunks together.
• When the baby elephant Chaba arrived at the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand, fellow baby elephant Pyi Mai ran over and welcomed her with a comforting hug.
• The two have grown to be BFFs and enjoy being loving, affectionate and mischievous park babies sharing hugs as often as they can.

Baby elephants rescued from mistreatment at tourist attractions end up at the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand.  Pyi Mai came with her mom.

One day, another elephant named Chaba arrived and little Pyi Mai ran over and welcomed her warmly with a hug by interlocking her trunk with Chaba’s.  The wrapping of trunks is the elephants’ way of hugging.

To Chaba, it was a source of comfort from a kindred soul. It was also the start of being best friends forever.  And hugging is often shared between the two.

Park projects director Ry Emmerson said, “They are constantly communicating through vocalizations and touch.” He added, “If one of the babies wanders away from her friend, the other will immediately call [for her] to come back … The love they show to each other is pure and unconditional. It’s something we can all learn from and so heartwarming to witness.”

Having felt safe in their new home, the baby elephants have thrived with the herd.  They play in the mud pit for hours without any care in the world earning them the affectionate nickname ‘double trouble’ for being gentle, loving and playful.

Emmerson said, “They are inseparable, always playing and getting up to mischief together — just as they should!”

The BFFs are assured of each other’s presence in their lives making them feel secure that each will always have the other nearby to share hugs with.
