  • Guo Gangtang has never stopped looking for his two-and-a-half-year-old son ever since he was abducted in 1997.
  • His perseverance even became the subject of a 2015 Hong Kong film called “Lost and Love.”
  • Finally, after about 24 years, he and his family has been reunited with their long-lost son.

A devoted father has finally been reunited with his long-lost son, who was abducted 24 years ago in 1997. Guo Gangtang’s son was 2 years old when he was kidnapped by human traffickers just outside their home in the province of Shandong, China. Now an adult, the long-lost son has returned to his family, thanks to DNA tracing.

The two kidnapping suspects, who were reportedly dating at the time, had planned to sell the child. Global Times reported that Gangtang’s son was playing outside his home when the female suspect, Tang, grabbed him. The child was sold in the neighboring province of Henan.

According to China’s Ministry of Public Security, police traced his identity and found him through DNA testing. He was found residing in the same province where he was kidnapped more than two decades ago.

On Sunday, the reunion was broadcast on Chinese state television CCTV.

The father and son embraced each other for the first time in 24 years, while the mother could be heard crying, “My baby, you came back.”

Gangtang declared, “Now that the child has been found, everything can only be happy from now on. It is an important day for me.”

The dedicated father had spent years searching for his son, traveling over 310,000 miles on his motorbike. During the search for his own son, he also helped reunite other families in China, the Global Times reported.

Gangtang’s story inspired the film “Lost and Love,” which stars Andy Lau and Jing Boran.

In a 2015 interview with Shandong-based Qilu News, Gangtang said, “Only on the road, I felt I am a father. I have no reason to stop (searching). And it’s impossible for me to stop.”
