  • Dog gets picked up and sent to a shelter who has no idea where the dog came from.
  •  Shelter posts a video of dog and owner comments, “That’s my dog.”
  • After sending a photo of the dog to verify ownership, the dog and owner reunited after 200 days and 1,200 miles apart.

Blue, a pit-bull mix, wandered into a stranger’s house, got picked up by an animal control officer, and brought to a shelter.

Washington County Animal Shelter’s personnel knew nothing about the homeless dog and Executive director Tammy Davis described him as, “a happy-go-lucky dog. He was a little shy at first, and he wasn’t very fond of all the other dogs being around him, but he was extremely affectionate to people and very loving to the staff.”

A Reunion 200 Days in the Making!! Just over 6 months ago, Blue went missing. His owner Pat searched and searched but couldn't find him. And then he had to move to Texas for his work. He thought he'd never see Blue again. Imagine his joy when a friend sent him a video of his dog playing ball at our shelter! He contacted us right away…"That's my dog!" And then imagine this…. HE DROVE 1,200 MILES FROM TEXAS TO GET HIS BOY!! We don't many happy endings like this one. There were some tears, tons of doggie kisses and lots of smiles. What a great story! We are so happy that the dog we named Bones is back with his dad and ready to catch up on some lovins. This is the best "feel good story" we've had in awhile, so please SHARE and spread the news: REUNITED!! This is why WE NEVER GIVE UP!

The shelter looks for adopters and forever homes for its rescues but with less foot traffic due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to close. Blue had to remain at the shelter.  But shelter personnel posted a video of Blue to potential adopters and this proved to be life-changing for Blue.

His video of him playing with his favorite toy, garnered a “That’s my dog” comment. It turns out that Blue was not abandoned and his dad has been searching for him.

To make sure that he was really Blue’s owner, the shelter had to ask Blue’s dad for proof. Davis said, “Blue’s favorite toy in the shelter was a blue squeaky ball and in our video, he was playing with that ball. Once we started the conversation with the owner he said, ‘Yes, I have pictures of my dog.’ He sent us pictures of Blue in his home with that same blue ball, which was his favorite toy at home. It was crazy.”

Blue’s dad had to relocate to Texas for work but has been looking for him ever since he disappeared in Tennessee. Now, thanks to his friend who showed him Blue’s video, he immediately drove 1,200 miles to be with Blue.

Davis said, “It was very obvious that the dog had a bond with that person. Blue was shocked for a split second, like, ‘Am I believing my eyes?’ And then it was just immediate kisses and the man was crying, it was great.”  He could not stop but “wish that every animal could have a happy ending like that. It makes all of our hard work worth it to be able to have moments like this.”

As for Blue and his Dad, they are happily back in each other’s loving arms in Texas.
