Quick Smiles:

  • Baby Willie’s sleepy reaction to Al Roker’s forecast had the entire studio smiling
  • Carson Daly’s playful wake-up call brought instant joy and laughter to the set
  • Savannah Guthrie declared the four-month-old the perfect baby and never wanted to let him go

When it comes to live television, you never know what you’re going to get. The Today show has had its fair share of unexpected on-air moments, but the hosts always do their best to remain poised and professional.

During the October 1, 2026, broadcast, Craig Melvin noticed a baby in Rockefeller Center who seemed totally unimpressed by Al Roker’s weather segment. Craig playfully pointed out the snoozing baby to Al.

“Roker, your forecast is usually quite compelling,” Craig joked. “This morning, apparently not so much.”

When Al saw the baby, he replied, “That’s how I like to leave my audience: riveted. He hears my voice, very soothing.”

Carson Daly wanted to get in on the fun, too. “Wake up! Wake up, little kid,” Carson called out to the baby, who we learned is named Willie. “Psst, baby. Carson’s here!”

Carson had the magic touch, and baby Willie was suddenly awake and very excited to be on TV.

“He’s startled, look!” Carson said. “That’s how we command attention in this crowded market.”

After the commercial break, the Today hosts decided to take the baby boy upstairs to get a better view of the set.

“Guys, Willie has entered the chat,” Savannah Guthrie said. “I’m 4 months old. Hello! I’m the Baby Boost,” she said in a baby voice.

Savannah fell totally in love and spoke to Willie’s parents, who confirmed that he is a “perfect baby.” He certainly looks like an angel with his beautiful round cheeks and sweet smile.

“You have crushed it. Drop the mic, Mom and Dad, this is a great baby. I may never let him go,” Savannah said.

Who knows, maybe Willie will grow up one day and be a host on Today. First impressions matter.
