Quick Smiles:

  • Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest have been dear friends for over 20 years before working together
  • Their warm Southern roots and shared values created instant on-screen magic
  • Fans’ worries melted away as the pair’s genuine friendship shone through

When Pat Sajak bid farewell to Wheel of Fortune, viewers everywhere wondered how Vanna White would adapt to a new partner. But what fans didn’t know was that she already had a beautiful friendship with Ryan Seacrest that stretched back more than two decades.

Vanna White and Pat Sajak became household names during their incredible run together on Wheel. Pat started hosting in December 1981, with Vanna joining him almost exactly one year later as the letter turner.

Their natural chemistry kept audiences smiling for years. So when Pat retired in 2024, many wondered if the show could continue its legacy.

As producers searched for Pat’s replacement, some doubted the show could survive the transition. Skeptics worried viewership would decline when Ryan Seacrest was announced as the new host.

But fans quickly discovered he was absolutely perfect for the role.

Vanna never had a single doubt about Ryan. She knew audiences would embrace him just as she had through their long-standing friendship.

“Ryan and I have been friends for over 20 years. So when he stepped into this position, it was like a good friend.”

A Bond Built on Shared Values and Southern Roots

Vanna White shared that while she and Ryan had never worked together before Wheel of Fortune, they connected instantly. Both hail from the South and share similar values and personalities.

That foundation made their professional partnership feel completely natural.

“We work off of each other. He’s professional; he’s kind; he’s hard working, and it’s great to work with him.”

Thankfully, adjusting to Pat Sajak’s departure has been one of the few changes Vanna’s experienced in her remarkable 43-year journey with the show. While technology and the set have evolved over the decades, her daily routine has remained wonderfully consistent.

“In all these years, it really hasn’t changed. I show up in the morning, around seven o’clock. We normally do a little fitting to try dresses on, not necessarily for that day, for future shows. I go into hair and makeup, then we start our first show. We do five or six shows that day, and I go home.”
