Blind teen leads football team to victory [Video]

Jasen Bracy became completely blind at age 7 due to retinal cancer that developed when he was just a toddler. Still, he wanted to pursue his dream of playing football.

His father, Jasen Bracy Sr., thought it was impossible for him to play a contact sport.

But Jasen persevered. He reached out to youth football teams and their coaches. He eventually met someone who was impressed with his attitude — Modesto Raiders Coach David Nichols.

The coach heard young Jasen’s determination through the call, so he told him that they will have to figure it out.

Last year, Jasen played as a running back. Now, he’s the starting quarterback for the Raiders.

He may not be able to see, but he can throw passes and run in touchdowns!

Jasen’s teammates guide him into position on the field while his dad coaches him from the sidelines. Through the walkie-talkie that transmits to Jasen’s helmet, his dad can tell him instructions like “run to your right” or “somebody’s coming to hit you.”

Jasen added, “It’s all memory. It’s all about having trust in the player, the receiver, and the team. I have to trust them 100%.”

Last weekend, Jasen led his team to an impressive 33-6 win!

Jasen’s story proves that disabilities and limitations do not automatically mean that one can’t pursue their passion.

Thanks to his determination and the support from his family and community, he was able to do what he loves.

Jasen wants to take his career as far as it can go — a shot at the NFL.
