Bonded Shelter Cats Wait Every Day for Someone to Adopt them Together

  • Xeno and Ripley were only under a year old when they arrived at the shelter with their eight kittens.
  • The bonded shelter cats are so inseparable that they do everything together — even co-parent all eight kittens.
  • While some of their little ones already have new families waiting for them, the cat moms are still waiting every day for a potential adopter to walk by their room.

Two young cat moms, Xeno and Ripley, were brought to the Exploits Valley SPCA in late September by local volunteers. They were both under a year old and only about 4 pounds, but they did their best to care for their little ones. The two have since become bonded shelter cats who do every activity together — even co-parenting all eight kittens.

Sometimes, all the kittens would be nursing from either one of them, that the shelter staff have had no way to know which kitten belonged to which mom.

Xeno, Ripley, and their kittens enjoy a spacious, comfortable room to themselves so they can all thrive, said shelter volunteer Sarah MacLeod.

And when the two cat moms aren’t busy caring for their little ones, they can be found walking around together, usually with their tails linked.

They would look out the glass door and windows of their room and into the hallway, hoping to catch the attention of a potential adopter.

They do love people and the attention they’re given!

But although some of their kittens already have families lining up to take them home, neither mom has received an application yet.

Bonded pets usually wait longer to get adopted, since not all families are ready to take care of two new pets at once.

We’re all hoping for Xeno and Ripley to find their forever family, who will give them the love and care that they have been giving their little ones.
