The internet is buzzing with excitement over a talented border collie who recently made his stage debut to thunderous applause.
Chrissy Joy, a performing artist, and her troupe, The Joy Crew, aim to bring “joy to others” through their performances.
Recently, they took part in a theatre show with Mutts Gone Nuts, where dogs usually perform alongside their handlers.
However, this time, they decided to try something different: having a dog “go without their handler to the actor on stage and perform special moves to begin the show.”
“I felt Whidbey could handle the task,” Joy proudly said.
The moment Whidbey, a five-year-old border collie, walked solo onto the stage, it brought joy to hundreds of thousands of people.
In a video shared on TikTok by @thejoycrew on September 24, which has already garnered over 860,000 views and 196,000 likes, Joy and Whidbey can be seen waiting patiently on the side of the stage.
Whidbey looks back at Joy excitedly, waiting for his cue.
When it comes, she gives him a little note, which he takes in his mouth before confidently strutting on stage.
The audience gasps and awws as soon as Whidbey appears.
When he hands the note to the actor and offers his paw to shake, the cheers begin.
Whidbey then happily struts back to Joy at the side of the stage, and the crowd starts an appreciative applause.
“Good job!” Joy whispers to him.
“Listen to the crowd,” she wrote on the clip, adding: “He’s so proud of himself.”
TikTok users were equally enchanted, with one commenter declaring: “I would’ve given him a standing ovation.”
Another said, “I literally just put my phone down and clapped,” adding, “He did so good!”
“Standing ovation for that perfect performance,” another user chimed in, while someone else asked, “Where’s his Oscar?”
One user summed it up perfectly: “Working dogs doing a job is so cute they’re so happy.”
“We rehearsed a few times and added the ‘paw shake’ when he greeted the actor, Tomas,” Joy shared.
She described the paw shake as one of Whidbey’s “signature moves.”
The five-year-old collie “loves to work and make people happy,” Joy added.
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), border collies like Whidbey are known for being bright, intelligent workaholics.
Originally bred as herding dogs, they are still popular as working dogs on farms and in obedience or agility work.
While they make excellent family pets, the AKC warns they may not be suitable for owners unable to give them the time and energy they need.
Joy describes Whidbey as “sweet, goofy” and with a “calm demeanor.”
He was “thrilled to get this chance to show off his tricks,” she said.
“I definitely teared up as he trotted back with the look of, ‘Look, I did it, Mom!’”
Chrissy Joy travels across the US with The Joy Crew, performing to show people “how special animals can be in our lives” if they take the time “to build that everlasting bond.”
She also offers online courses through her BFF Pet Services company, helping dog owners “start teaching their dogs tricks right at home.”
