Chinese Clean-Energy Breakthrough Promises Limitless Zero-Carbon Power

Quick Smiles:
- World-first hydrogen-boron fusion achieved in a commercial setting
- Abundant, non-radioactive fuel could power cities for generations
- International scientists hail the step as “significant and valuable”
Chinese engineers have achieved brief nuclear fusion with a much cleaner and abundant fuel supply in what an international review team called a “significant and valuable” advance in the field.
Using hydrogen-boron as fuel, a state-backed energy company used a laser and radio waves to generate a plasma within a spherical device.
Unlike traditional deuterium-tritium reactions, the hydrogen-boron process produces no long-lived radioactive waste, making it safer and more sustainable.
The breakthrough marks the first time such fusion has been demonstrated at a commercial reactor scale, opening the door to cleaner energy solutions worldwide.
“This is a significant and valuable advance in the field,” an international review team stated.
Engineers say the next phase will focus on extending plasma duration and scaling up energy output for real-world power generation.
