Residents of the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, are expressing heartfelt support for the family of Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie’s mother, through symbolic gestures of hope. Neighbors have been tying yellow ribbons around trees and placing yellow flowers at Nancy Guthrie’s home and throughout their community.

“It’s important to show support for your neighbors, especially in a very trying time like this,” shared Curt Dunshee, a neighbor.

Local businesses, including Casas Adobes Flower Shop, have partnered with residents and the homeowners association to make flower deliveries simple and meaningful for the Guthrie family.

“We’re happy to be able to contribute. If it brings any comfort or relief to the family, it’s nice to be able to give them that,” expressed shop owner Matt Biggs.

Biggs explained that yellow is seen as a symbol of hope and support, reminding everyone that brighter days can be ahead. Messages of solidarity continue to grow, as the local NBC affiliate in Tucson, KVOA, displays a large banner reading, “bring her home,” decorated with signatures and loving words from the community.

“We all feel like we love them. We’ve taken them in as our own and my heart breaks,” resident Lynne McCane said.

Back in Studio 1A, Hoda Kotb acknowledged the outpouring of care, saying, “People want to do something. You feel helpless.” Carson Daly added, “It extends from beyond Tucson as well. I think nationally people feel that way.”
